Intimate care is something a lot of people are curious about but hesitant to ask about. That silence leads to bad information — and to products being used in ways that cause more harm than good. Here is a straightforward guide.
The first rule: external use only
This is the most important thing on this page. Intimate care creams, including ours, are formulated for the external intimate area only. They should never be applied internally.
The internal environment is self-cleaning and maintains its own delicate pH balance. Introducing products into it — including douches, scented washes and creams — disrupts that balance and is a well-known cause of irritation and infection. Doctors advise against it consistently. Please follow the directions on the packaging.
Everyday care basics
- Wash with plain water or a mild, unscented cleanser. Regular soap is usually too harsh for this area.
- Skip fragranced products. Perfumed washes, wipes and sprays are a frequent cause of irritation.
- Dry thoroughly. Moisture trapped against skin causes discomfort and darkening over time.
- Choose breathable cotton underwear. Synthetic fabrics trap heat and moisture.
- Avoid very tight clothing daily. Constant friction is a major cause of discolouration in this area.
Why the skin here darkens
Darkening in intimate and underarm areas is extremely common and usually harmless. The main causes are friction from clothing, shaving or waxing, moisture, hormonal changes, and natural pigmentation. It is not a sign of poor hygiene — despite what a lot of marketing implies.
How to use an intimate care cream safely
- Patch test first. Apply a small amount to your inner forearm and wait 24 hours before using it on delicate skin.
- Apply to clean, dry skin. A thin layer on the external area is enough.
- Do not apply after shaving or waxing. Wait at least 24 hours for the skin to settle.
- Introduce one product at a time. If irritation occurs, you will know what caused it.
- Stop immediately if you feel burning, stinging or itching. Rinse with plain water. Discomfort is not a sign that a product is "working".
- Be patient. Gentle formulas work gradually — weeks, not days.
When to see a doctor instead
Skincare products are not the answer for medical symptoms. Please see a doctor if you have unusual discharge, a persistent odour, itching that does not settle, sores, bleeding, pain, or any sudden change. These need proper diagnosis — no cream treats them.
A note on expectations
Be sceptical of any product promising dramatic transformation. Gentle, natural formulas support comfort, moisture and a more even tone with consistent use. That is a realistic outcome, and it is what we aim for.
